Colin Farrell is opening up about the shelved Sgt. Rock movie.
Luca Guadagnino was originally tapped to direct a Sgt. Rock movie for DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures. The film was intended to be set within James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, and it was originally believed that it was going to star Daniel Craig. However, it was later reported that Craig was not attached to the project, and Farrell was being eyed for the lead role in the film instead.
Development on the project halted earlier this year. Gunn told Entertainment Weekly in June that they were “still moving forward” with the movie, but there haven’t been many updates about Sgt. Rock since then, leaving it unclear if it is still happening. TheWrap reported that Guadagnino was no longer involved with the film in July.
What did Colin Farrell say about the Sgt. Rock movie?
Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Farrell said that Sgt. Rock has a “fantastic script,” and he wonders what’s happening with it.
“I know nothing about it, brother,” he continued. “I was going to do it with Luca. We spoke a couple of times. Had some really nice chats. I have no idea where it is now. But it should be made. It’s really, really good. There’s some wonderful stuff in it.”
At this time, the Sgt. Rock movie doesn’t have a release date and doesn’t appear to be a priority for DC Studios. The DCU projects arriving in 2026 are Lanterns, Supergirl, and Clayface.
Farrell, meanwhile, will soon reprise his role as Oz Cobb/The Penguin in Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2, also known as The Batman: Part II or The Batman 2, which arrives in October 2027. That movie is not part of the DCU; rather, it takes place in Reeves’ The Batman Epic Crime Saga.
