A new rumor claims that the movie adaptation of a popular PlayStation game franchise may still be in development. The Naughty Dog title was first reported to be in development for a big-screen adaptation nearly five years ago.
The film adaptation of Jak & Daxter is “still in development,” according to Industry insider Daniel Richtman. However, the brief update does not provide details about the film’s current studio, cast, director, or potential release date. Sony has yet to make an official announcement surrounding the project.

In February 2022, Uncharted director Ruben Fleischer accidentally teased that he was working with PlayStation again to adapt Jak & Daxter. “I’m actually working on Jak & Daxter, a version of that, for PlayStation,” the 51-year-old said. “Which I think would be really cool to bring to life.”
Fleischer directed the Uncharted film adaptation, starring Tom Holland. The movie was a box office success, garnering $407 million against a $120 million production budget.
It became even more interesting when Holland revealed that he wanted to play Jak in the live-action adaptation, jokingly pitching a dark, weird version of the movie with A24.

The Jak & Daxter video games built a lasting PlayStation legacy
Naughty Dog first introduced the platform video game series with Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy in 2001 in partnership with Sony. The game follows Jak, who sets out to reverse the transformation of Daxter into an otter-like hybrid. The PS2 release stood out for its bright world and seamless gameplay, without loading screens.
It then led to two direct sequels: Jak II in 2003 and Jak 3 in 2004. The spin-off Jak X: Combat Racing followed in 2005 with fast-paced arcade racing set in the same universe. However, its most recent entry was released in 2009, titled Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier.
A remastered bundle of the core games is now available for PS4/PS5 on the PS Store.
