Olivia Wilde‘s The Invite turned into one of the biggest surprises of the summer. The A24 comedy opened in limited release on June 26, 2026, and expanded wide on July 10. It quietly became a rare non-horror indie hit, pulling in roughly $45.3 million worldwide against the $12 million A24 paid for it at Sundance.
Critics loved it, with a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and audiences backed it up at 89%. Wilde has since said she had to fight to get it into cinemas at all rather than sell it to a streamer. Where to Watch The Invite After Its Digital Release?
The Invite is available on Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango At Home, along with other digital storefronts. There are two ways to watch, and neither one requires a subscription.
Renting costs $19.99 across all three platforms. This is a video-on-demand transaction, not a streaming perk, so you don’t need Prime, Apple TV+, or any membership to do it. You just need a free account on the platform and a payment method. Rentals get a window of about 30 days to press play, and once you start, you usually have 48 hours to finish before it expires.
Buying costs $24.99, again on Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango At Home. That gets you a permanent digital copy tied to your account, which you can rewatch whenever you like.
A24 has a distribution deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, which means The Invite is expected to land on HBO Max at some point down the line. No date has been announced. A physical release is also on the way. A24 has confirmed DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K editions are coming soon, but hasn’t shared a date yet.

The Invite is Olivia Wilde’s third film as a director, after Booksmart and Don’t Worry Darling. It deals with a dinner party that goes badly off the rails. Wilde stars as Angela alongside Seth Rogen as her husband Joe, a couple whose marriage has gone stale and quietly resentful.
They invite their upstairs neighbours over for dinner, and the neighbours turn out to be everything they aren’t. Penélope Cruz plays Piña and Edward Norton plays Hawk, a pair who are cooler, freer, and far more comfortable in their own skin.
What starts as an awkward evening turns into a night of confessions, uncomfortable truths, and social disasters piling on top of each other. The screenplay comes from Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, adapted from Cesc Gay’s Spanish film The People Upstairs.
Wilde spent roughly six years on it, working through delays caused by the 2023 strikes and the 2024 Los Angeles wildfires, and even a full cast turnover before the final four came together. That effort paid off, since the movie has picked up awards buzz for all four leads.
