Ian McElhinney did complete justice to the role of Ser Barristan, where he played an honorable and fiercely loyal knight. He was one of the fan favorites in Game of Thrones, but his journey came to an abrupt end when the creators decided to kill off his character.

He died fighting a gang of masked insurgents in Meeren, and in an interview at the MCM London Comic Con, the actor revealed how he felt about his role being cut short. Moreover, he only realized his character’s fate when he saw the shooting schedule, which made this exit even more jarring (via Vulture).
I was a bit disappointed by that. It wouldn’t have made any difference, but I felt that as a matter of just courtesy, I should have known.
I was disappointed because I had enjoyed playing the part and I was looking forward to getting more meat in the part. I had dared to presume that I would at least go into season six. I obviously shouldn’t have dared to presume. So be it. The deed is done.
So, McElhinney’s disappointment didn’t just stem from the lack of communication but also because he had hopes for the character’s future after reading George R.R. Martin’s books. After Daenerys leaves Meeren, Ser Barristan plays a key role in the city, but unfortunately, the storyline wasn’t adapted in the show.

While Ian McElhinney was let down, Conleth Hill was “inconsolable” after he found out that his character, Varys, was going to be burned by Daenerys’ dragon in the final season. In an interview with The Times UK, the actor revealed how he felt about Varys’ intelligence being sidelined by the end of Game of Thrones.
Right up until the last two series, I had no complaints at all. I just felt frustrated with the last couple of series because Varys wasn’t the all-knowing character he had been. I think the writers wanted to do one thing to end it and the studio HBO wanted to do another. I felt that last series was a bit rushed. I was inconsolable, but now I’m fine about it.
Many people share Hill’s frustration with the final season being cut down to only six episodes, which left no room for properly exploring any storylines. Apart from these two actors, other artists from the show have also voiced their disapproval, although not in such a straightforward manner, but rather through sarcasm or subtle expressions, and understandably so.
