Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2 reveals several crucial details about the Upside Down, including Vecna’s ultimate plan, Kali’s true intentions, and what the group decides to do as the threat looms over them. However, one of the biggest highlights of Episode 7, The Bridge, is Will Byers, who finally decides to come clean to his friends and family.
After realizing that Vecna preys on people’s worst memories and fears to terrorize them, Will chooses to confront his fear. Before heading out for their final crawl, Will confides in Joyce, revealing that Vecna showed him horrifying visions while he was trapped within the hive mind.
Afraid that Vecna could once again use him to hurt the people he loves, Will gathers everyone together to share his truth. At the WSQK, Will opens up, explaining that although he is just like his friends in every way, there is one thing that makes him different: he doesn’t like girls.
He also admits that he has had a crush on someone for a long time, though he doesn’t reveal their name. Will explains that Vecna used this fear against him, showing him a future where he is completely alone after coming out. But unlike Vecna’s vision, Will’s confession is met with love and acceptance, as his friends surround him with hugs and promise to always stand by his side.
Talking about the sequence, the Stranger Things creators revealed that it was something they had planned for Will’s character for a long time. They told Netflix,
It’s important that he comes to terms with this, and once he’s able to do that, he’s heading into this final battle with a confidence and maturity that he hasn’t had before.
Will later turns to Eleven and tells her that she can defeat Vecna, but he will have to be there with her. He says that he is no longer afraid and is ready to face Vecna head-on.
What Is Vecna’s Plan, & What Does Henry Do With the 12 Kids At the End?
While Stranger Things Season 5 doesn’t place Vecna or Henry at the center of every episode, it slowly pieces together the full scope of his plan and what’s ultimately at stake. Much of this revelation comes after the group helps Dustin, Steve, Nancy, and Jonathan escape the Upside Down.
Once reunited, Dustin explains what he’s learned from Dr. Brenner’s notes. Drawing a map, he reveals that the Upside Down is connected to Hawkins by an inter-dimensional bridge formed by exotic matter.
This bridge links Hawkins to a deeper realm he calls the Abyss, the true home of the Mind Flayer, Demogorgons, and other Upside Down creatures. It’s also where Eleven banished Henry years ago. According to Dustin, the bridge was created the first time Eleven made contact with the Abyss, allowing Henry and other entities to travel between worlds.
Will adds that Vecna has been keeping the children in the Abyss to amplify his powers, much like he once used Will himself. When Will was connected to the Mind Flayer, Vecna used him to create the tunnel network beneath Hawkins.
Max then reveals that Holly told her Henry intends to move worlds, prompting Will to conclude that Vecna’s true goal is to merge Hawkins with the Abyss. Given that every major supernatural event has occurred on November 6, they believe Vecna plans to do this on the same day, that is, tonight.
Desperate, the group forms a risky counterplan. Steve suggests using the WSQK tower to access the Abyss, while Eleven and Kali focus on killing Vecna. Dustin proposes destroying the exotic matter with a bomb, collapsing the bridge entirely. With no other options left, the group prepares for one final crawl.
Meanwhile, the episode ends on a chilling note. Henry gathers the twelve children, including Holly and Derek, and takes control of their minds, beginning what appears to be his final ritual, setting the stage for the ultimate confrontation.
Kali Has a Fatal Plan For Eleven
While the rest of the group focuses on stopping Vecna in Stranger Things Season 5, Kali has been quietly pursuing a plan of her own, one far more extreme than anyone realizes. From the moment she returns, Kali insists she’s there to end the cycle once and for all and make sure the horrors surrounding the Upside Down never happen again.
But Hopper quickly senses that she’s hiding something, and he’s ultimately proven right. Before the group enters the Upside Down for their final mission, Kali gets a private moment with Eleven. It’s there that she reveals the truth about her plan.

According to Kali, the only way to truly end everything is through sacrifice. She argues that as long as she and Eleven are alive, people like Dr. Kay and Brenner will continue hunting them, restarting the experiments, and opening doors that should remain closed.
Eleven pushes back, insisting that they deserve the chance to leave it all behind and live normal lives. Kali, however, remains resolute. She tells Eleven that when the bridge between Hawkins and the Abyss is destroyed, they must stay behind, ensuring that it collapses with them and permanently seals the connection between worlds.
As the group prepares to enter the Upside Down, Eleven shares a final, lingering look with Kali, one that suggests she may have accepted the plan.
“There’s a look and a moment between [Eleven] and Kali where it seems as though Eleven has agreed to Kali’s plan to stay in the Upside Down when it explodes,” the Stranger Things co-creator Ross Duffer said.
Duffer added that even if the mission succeeds, Eleven’s fate still remains uncertain in the Stranger Things finale. The finale ultimately leaves viewers with a haunting cliffhanger, raising the question of whether saving the world will cost Eleven her life.
Do Max and Holly Escape Camazotz in Stranger Things Season 5?
After being trapped inside Henry’s memories for much of Stranger Things Season 5, Max and Holly finally find a way out in Episode 6, Escape from Camazotz. While navigating Henry’s memories, Max and Holly witness one of his most disturbing memories.
It includes a terrified man in the mines shooting an eight-year-old Henry in the hand, believing the child has been sent to kill him. Before the man can fire again, Henry wrestles control of the gun and brutally beats him to death with a rock.

As Max continues moving through Henry’s memories, she once again hears Running Up That Hill. Following the music, she manages to escape, waking up in the hospital with Lucas by her side.
However, Holly is left behind. Separated from Max, Holly finds herself trapped in the Abyss, where Vecna has imprisoned the other children. Holly eventually escapes on her own, emerging into an unfamiliar world.
Confused and frightened, she doesn’t know how to follow Max’s earlier instructions to go home, as she is not in the Upside Down. After discovering a tear, Holly crosses through it, only to fall from the sky.
She briefly lands atop Hawkins Lab, where Nancy spots her, but before help can arrive, Holly is violently pulled back into the air and recaptured by Vecna.
Later, Holly wakes up in the Creel House, surrounded by her friends. Under Henry’s influence, they insist that Max is the real monster. Holly tries desperately to tell them the truth and even turns to Derek for help, but he’s too afraid of Henry’s threats to intervene.
When all her attempts fail, Holly tries to escape, only to be restrained by her own friends. The episode ends on a chilling note. Holly, who has a gash on her head, sits at the table with the other captured children as Henry prepares to enact his final plan.
