Spread the love

In the world of Survivor, contestants face countless challenges, but the host, Jeff Probst, might have just topped them all. In a surprising moment from Survivor 47, Probst went beyond his usual duties, showing just how far he’s willing to go to promote the show. While the contestants were digging into a messy bowl of peanut butter and chocolate during an auction, Probst shocked viewers by eating from the same unsanitary bowl.

While the moment was certainly eye-catching, it raised some interesting questions about just how far Probst is willing to go for the show and to connect with viewers.

What motivated Jeff Probst to eat from the same bowl as Survivor contestants?

On Survivor, contestants deal with tough living conditions, which include not having showers, brushing their teeth, or washing their hands for weeks. This becomes a problem when, during the famous auction in season 47. In this, three contestants namely Sierra Wright, Caroline Vidmar, and Gabe Ortis dove into a giant bowl of peanut butter and chocolate with their hands, ignoring the lack of hygiene.

They hadn’t washed their hands in two weeks, but they were too hungry to care. But what happened next was even more surprising. After the commercial break, Survivor host Jeff Probst stepped up and dipped his pinky finger into the same bowl of peanut butter and chocolate.

He ate it right after the contestants had finished, leaving viewers in shock. Probst was asked about it on his On Fire podcast that:

Was that the actual peanut butter that the players who hadn’t showered or washed their hands in two weeks had been eating?

Probst jokingly answered:

Thank you for noticing. Yes, it was! I did that casting call less than one minute after the players left. That was Jada’s idea. She produces those. I just want it to be noted, I give everything for this show! I’m willing to risk bacterial infections, viral infections, parasites, or just general illness just to encourage future players to apply to be on Survivor!

Probst’s decision to eat from the same bowl of peanut butter and chocolate, despite the contestants’ lack of hygiene, highlighted his dedication to the show. His willingness to go the extra mile, even when it involves eating food that had been handled under such conditions, demonstrated just how far he would go for the sake of Survivor.

How Jeff Probst plans to celebrate the 50th season of Survivor?

He shared with Entertainment Weekly that the word “celebrate” came to mind when thinking about the season. He also added:

Imagine you have just an empty whiteboard and you can write anything you want on it. The first word that came to me was celebrate. We want fans to be happy. We want this to be a celebration.

For Survivor 50, Probst is bringing back past players for the first time since Winners at War (Season 40). But this time, he’s not looking for players with old grudges. Instead, he wants players who are excited and positive. Probst explained:

We want players who are also excited to be on it. We’re big-picture trying to celebrate 25 years, and that means joyful players who are in a good mood and want to play.

Probst’s vision for the season is full of fun, laughter, and special moments that will make it memorable for both the players and the fans. The 50th season promises to be a celebration of Survivor’s long history while still delivering the exciting gameplay fans love.
