Bill Goldberg is one of the most powerful wrestlers in the WWE. From his initial debut in 1997, he has been an absolute menace inside the ring. Very few wrestlers have survived the jackhammer and emerged victorious. After 28 years, Goldberg has announced his retirement from the WWE.
However, this comes as bittersweet news as he is training for one last match in the WWE, which would be his retirement match. Goldberg’s rigorous fight training is underway, yet his opponent remains unknown. The WWE and Triple H are still deciding on his opponent.
Goldberg and his retirement match in WWE
Recently, My San Antonio, a digital news platform, released a post about Goldberg training for his retirement match. It seems like the WWE will give him one more chance to appear on the big stage and close his story. However, they haven’t decided on his opponent yet.

Goldberg, in his own words, confirmed his retirement match by stating,
I am training for my retirement match with the WWE, [to be] held at some point prior to the end of 2025. I do not know who, when, or where I’m wrestling.
The four-time world champion will make sure he ends his career with a powerful jackhammer that converts into a win. His last in-ring action happened in 2022 against Roman Reigns, where he took the defeat in the hopes of getting a good retirement match under Vince McMahon’s regime.

However, after the lawsuit against Vince, the plans may have been delayed, but they weren’t canceled. Triple H is making sure that Goldberg gets a perfect farewell. Although there are no revelations about his opponent, these WWE superstars could be a good match for him.
Who could be the opponent of Goldberg’s retirement match?
Bronn Breakker has been an upcoming sensation in the WWE, and his brutal spears are all over social media. His style of delivering a spear looks much more lethal than many WWE superstars, including Edge and Roman Reigns. Goldberg has also delivered brutal spears throughout his career, and this could be an ideal match.

Another ideal match for Bill’s retirement could be Brock Lesnar. Bill versus Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series 2016 was one of the most iconic matches of Goldberg’s career. Two spears and a jackhammer were enough for the beast to get slayed. If they meet again inside the ring, it will be an interesting fight between two powerful monsters.
However, Brock Lesnar has been dealing with legal trouble after he was named in the Vince McMahon lawsuit. WWE is keeping an active distance from the beast, and it was visible when they didn’t feature him in Roman Reigns’ top WrestleMania highlights video that was recently released to hype up WrestleMania 41.
At one point, Bill was one of the most popular faces of the WWE. His powerful jackhammers, which riled up the crowd and wreaked havoc on his opponents, were a perfect combination for the Attitude Era, and he was one of the top guns of that time. Bill will have his retirement before the end of 2025. It would be interesting to see who will be his last opponent.
WrestleMania 41 is scheduled on Saturday, April 19, and Sunday, April 20, 2025, at 7 PM (ET)/4 PM (PT), streaming live on Peacock in the United States and on Netflix everywhere else.
