The Hunter x Hunter universe is filled with some of anime’s most demanding trials, and the Hunter Exam is arguably the ultimate test of survival, adaptability, and nerve. But what if characters from One Piece were thrown into the same challenge? The Grand Line has produced plenty of pirates, assassins, and adventurers who are accustomed to impossible odds and unpredictable situations.
While raw strength would certainly help, passing the Hunter Exam would require much more than that. These eight One Piece characters have the skills, instincts, and personalities most likely to carry them through its deadly challenges.

8. Roronoa Zoro Has the Endurance to Survive Even the Cruelest Tests
Zoro from One Piece | Credits: Toei Animation
Roronoa Zoro‘s greatest advantage would be his absurd endurance. He has repeatedly continued fighting after taking devastating injuries, and his determination makes giving up almost impossible for him. His swordsmanship, Haki, and physical strength would also make the combat portions of the exam relatively manageable.
The problem is that Zoro isn’t exactly known for his navigation skills or patience with complicated instructions. He could easily make a simple challenge much harder than necessary. Zoro could survive the exam through sheer toughness, but his lack of versatility puts him below the others.
7. Sanji Could Cook, Fight, and Outsmart His Way Through the Exam
Sanji from One Piece | Credits: Toei Animation
Sanji would be unusually well prepared for the Hunter Exam because his skills extend far beyond fighting. He’s an exceptional cook, a powerful martial artist, an experienced infiltrator, and an excellent improviser. His Observation Haki would also help him detect threats before they become serious problems.
Sanji has survived countless dangerous islands and situations where brute force wasn’t enough, making him comfortable with thinking on his feet. A food-related challenge would obviously play directly into his strengths. Sanji’s versatility gives him several ways to pass, although his personality can occasionally create unnecessary complications.
6. Boa Hancock Has the Power and Composure to Make Passing Look Easy
Boa Hancock from One Piece | Credits: Toei Animation
Boa Hancock would have little trouble with the physical demands of most Hunter Exam phases. She is an exceptionally powerful fighter, possesses all three types of Haki, and has considerable experience ruling Amazon Lily and leading the Kuja Pirates.
Her Mero Mero no Mi could also neutralize many opponents almost instantly, although its effectiveness depends on the target’s susceptibility to its effects. More importantly, Hancock is accustomed to commanding others and remaining composed when surrounded by danger. Hancock has tremendous power and confidence, but some exam challenges could reward adaptability over overwhelming strength.
5. Crocodile Has the Cunning and Survival Instincts to Reach the End
Crocodile from One Piece | Credits: Toei Animation
Sir Crocodile might actually enjoy the Hunter Exam. His greatest strength isn’t simply his Suna Suna no Mi or combat ability; it’s his ability to manipulate people and prepare long-term plans. As the former leader of Baroque Works, he successfully operated a massive criminal organization while hiding his true intentions.
He’s also experienced with harsh environments and knows how dangerous careless opponents can be. Crocodile would probably approach every phase looking for loopholes instead of trying to overpower everyone. Crocodile’s intelligence and ruthlessness make him a superb candidate, but his ego could become a liability.
4. Rob Lucci Has the Ruthless Discipline Needed to Pass the Exam
Rob Lucci from One Piece | Credits: Toei Animation
Lucci is almost purpose-built for an examination involving combat, survival, and psychological pressure. As a former World Government CP9 assassin and current CP0 agent, he possesses extensive training in the Six Powers and Haki. His ability to operate undercover also shows that he can remain focused without drawing attention to himself.
Unlike Zoro, Lucci wouldn’t waste energy wandering around or picking unnecessary fights. He would simply identify the objective and eliminate whatever stood between him and it. Lucci’s discipline and versatility make him extremely reliable, though he lacks the adaptability of the top three.
3. Blackbeard Has the Ruthlessness to Exploit Almost Any Exam
Blackbeard from One Piece | Credits: Toei Animation
Blackbeard would be a nightmare candidate to compete against because he rarely fights fair when another option exists. Teach is patient, manipulative, opportunistic, and remarkably good at taking advantage of chaotic situations.
His Yami Yami no Mi allows him to nullify other Devil Fruit abilities through physical contact, while the Gura Gura no Mi gives him tremendous destructive power. More importantly, Teach has repeatedly built plans around circumstances changing unexpectedly. Blackbeard’s cunning and opportunism make him an excellent survivor, though his greed could make him overconfident.
2. Katakuri Has the Composure and Foresight to Survive Every Phase
Charlotte Katakuri from One Piece | Credits: Toei Animation
Katakuri would be terrifyingly well suited to the Hunter Exam. His advanced Observation Haki allows him to see several seconds into the future, while his enormous physical strength and Mochi Mochi no Mi give him tremendous combat versatility.
More importantly, Katakuri is famously calm and disciplined. He wouldn’t rush blindly into a challenge, and his experience protecting his family has taught him to remain composed under enormous pressure. Katakuri combines overwhelming ability with the calm judgment that the Hunter Exam heavily rewards.
1. Trafalgar Law Would Outsmart Most Hunters Before the Exam Ends
Trafalgar D. Law from One Piece | Credits: Toei Animation
Law is arguably the best overall fit for becoming a Hunter. He’s a trained doctor, an experienced pirate captain, an intelligent strategist, and an exceptionally capable fighter. His Ope Ope no Mi gives him enormous versatility, while his medical knowledge could be invaluable during a survival-oriented examination.
Law also has the temperament to analyze a situation before acting rather than charging ahead. The Hunter Exam’s unpredictability would suit someone who can adapt his plans when circumstances suddenly change. Law combines intelligence, medical expertise, combat ability, versatility, and level-headedness better than anyone else here.
