One piece fans punching air as japan officially chooses top 5 manga of
Spread the love

One Piece fans woke up to a small and loudly disputed injustice this week when Oricon’s latest weekly manga chart placed ONE PIECE Vol. 113 at number six, even though the volume shows a cumulative sales figure of 1,018,776 copies. It was the highest total listed on the chart. The weekly snapshot put Vol. 113’s estimated sales at 19,694 (as of January 12, 2026), a strong number by any normal standard.

However, it’s far behind Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Vol. 15, which led the week with 57,504 copies. The second place went to The Summer Hikaru Died Vol. 8, and From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman Vol. 8 ranked third. The fifth place was stolen by The Barrier Master’s Single Flower Vol. 7 that sold 20,205 copies this week with only 36, 371 in cumulative sales.

That mismatch between huge lifetime sales vs a middling weekly tally is what set off the online reaction. The furor isn’t about whether One Piece is selling, but how a weekly chart can read as a slight when a series has already long proven its commercial muscle.

Oricon chart ranks titles by estimated sales for the given week, while also listing cumulative totals alongside each title. That explains the technical reason One Piece sits sixth, but it does little to dampen fans’ frustration. Eiichiro Oda’s legacy manga sold more than a million copies of a single volume, and it still couldn’t make it to the Top 5.

The raw numbers underline the difference between weekly velocity and all-time accumulation. A new release that bursts out of the gate will top a weekly chart even if its lifetime figures remain far behind a steady seller. Even if that seller (in this case, One Piece) has been selling millions of copies.

It’s also worth noting that One Piece’s cumulative total reflects not just a single print run but years of consistent popularity, reprints, new readers discovering the series, and collectors buying later editions.

This leaves fans perplexed, as just a few months back, in November 2025, One Piece topped the Oricon chart and became the “Best Selling Manga of the Year” for the 18th time. Oda’s masterpiece reclaimed the top position after a dry run of seven years by selling 4,211,363 copies (via X by @Josu_ke,).

From 2007 to 2018, the manga remained as an undisputed champion on the chart before bowing out to Demon Slayer. Then the reign of Jujutsu Kaisen kept Oda’s work at bay from climbing to the top for several years. But One Piece prevailed once again by late 2025, making a worthy comeback.

One Piece’s Legacy Is Bigger Than Any Chart Ranking

Volume 113 collects chapters 1145 and then chapter 1149 through chapter 1155, and the material inside is part of the manga’s surging late-game revelations. These chapters deepen Loki’s backstory and push forward the God Valley / Rocks D. Xebec plots.

Chapter 1145 furthers the immediate plot around Loki and the Giant Warrior Pirates, while the later chapters (1155) pull back the curtain on the motives of the legendary Rocks Pirates, a reveal that reframes whole swaths of earlier lore.

Those story beats matter when you consider why cumulative sales can be so high. Because volumes that deliver long-awaited revelations or large story pivots tend to have a long tail in sales. So while a rival title can eclipse Oda’s work on a given week, the manga’s steady accrual of copies reflects its unique position as a strong-built legacy rather than a one-week phenomenon.

In the end, the Oricon chart changes nothing. One Piece Vol. 113 has sold more than a million copies and remains one of the most successful manga on the planet. If anything, the chart is a reminder that stats tell different stories depending on how you slice them. One Piece may have been sixth on this week’s list, but in the story that matters, it’s still sailing at the head of the fleet for nearly three decades.
