Timothée Chalamet is next set to appear in his upcoming Marty Supreme, but he is already gaining quite the criticism over his comments. The actor has recently emphasized his confidence in this film and himself, suggesting that he believes he will win everything for it, with fans feeling that his comments are directed toward winning an Oscar by next year.
During a recent one-on-one interview with Good Morning America, the Wonka star got candid about the same while talking about his forthcoming film. He said,
The bigger, more important thing is I want the movie to succeed and I want everything to win in the film… The real truth is, with Marty Supreme, I feel confident to the degree that, by next summer- I don’t know, man, should I not be saying this? Like, I feel like it will. No, I’m confident, I know what it’s going to be by next summer.
These comments led fans to conclude that Chalamet was implying he would win an Academy Award by next year for his performance in his new sports comedy-drama.

While Timothée Chalamet was clearly trying to express his enthusiasm and confidence in his performance in Marty Supreme, emphasizing how he just knew that it was good enough to garner him sincere applause and acknowledgement, fans are finding problems with it.
If anything, some are even comparing him to Leonardo DiCaprio, who has only won one Oscar in his entire star-studded career, and still never acted that way despite arguably being one of the best actors of all time. On X, here’s what these fans have to say:
Leonardo DiCaprio never acted like this and he’s arguably one of the best actors of all time. Timothée please stop https://t.co/EGbz3ECqGI— ₊˚⊹♡ aaliyah 🧣ೃ༄ | SPREAD POSITIVITY ❤️🔥 (@dc4era) December 16, 2025

At this point it feels like if Timothee Chalamet wins an Oscar, it’s because he begged for it and not because he earned it.— Jen (@JennyTea1234) December 17, 2025

It took Leo decades to finally pick one up, Timmy has nowhere near the body of work that Leo has.— GN (@GN_CARRILL0) December 17, 2025
Judging from these reactions, it’s evident that Chalamet has really pissed off quite a few fans with his latest comments, as they think he is being a tad too overconfident. However, that’s ironic, because just earlier this year, he was praised for aiming to be “one of the greats”!

In February this year, Timothée Chalamet won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his performance as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, and he didn’t hesitate to be confident and upfront about his career goals in his acceptance speech.
Initially, he started off by praising Dylan and calling it an honor to get to play him. Chalamet said (via Variety),
I know the classiest thing would be to downplay the effort that went into this role and how much this means to me, but the truth is, this was five years of my life. I poured everything I had into playing this incomparable artist, Mr. Bob Dylan, a true American hero. It was the honor of a lifetime playing him. It’s an honor I share with Monica, Elle, Edward, the entire cast, who, in a genre doin’ a biopic that could be perhaps tired, everyone gave it their all. So deeply grateful to them.
He then proceeded to confess how he is really just “in pursuit of greatness,” irrespective of how that might make him sound. Chalamet said,
I can’t downplay the significance of this award. Cause it means the most to me. And I know we’re in a subjective business, but the truth is, I’m really in pursuit of greatness. I know people don’t usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats.
He further proceeded to emphasize how he has been inspired by some of the greatest people sitting there, taking the names of fan-favorite talents like Daniel Day-Lewis, the late Marlon Brando, and Viola Davis, among others, for his inspiration. Chalamet went on to say,
I’m inspired by the greats. I’m inspired by the greats here tonight. I’m as inspired by Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando, and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps, and I want to be up there. So I’m deeply grateful. This doesn’t signify that, but it’s a little more fuel. It’s a little more ammo to keep going. Thank you so much.
This acceptance speech earned him significant acclaim from fans worldwide, who praised him for aiming for the clouds. If anything, at the time, he was lauded by everyone for having a dream, a goal, and wanting to make a significant name for himself in the entertainment industry and be remembered among the greats.
But now that he has once again expressed his confidence in being known and acknowledged, fans aren’t really pleased with it. If anything, they feel like he is exhibiting overconfidence and really needs to calm down, and maybe even act humble and down-to-earth like DiCaprio. Then again, since when did it become a crime to dream big?
As for whether he does end up achieving that greatness or not, we guess that’s something only time can tell. What do you think about this? Got something to say? Let us know in the comments below!
Marty Supreme is set to hit the screens on December 25, 2025.
