With Zack Snyder’s return to the DC IP gaining momentum following the potential acquisition of WBD by Netflix, many fans of the filmmaker on the internet are celebrating this as a major win for the Snyderverse.
And some of them are going so far as to claim that since filmmaker James Gunn couldn’t handle it, DC should go back to Snyder in the future.

Given that the streaming giant already has a working relationship with the 300 filmmaker, it seems very likely that Netflix has plans to revive the DCEU in the future. The most visible sign of this is Snyder’s own admission to being open to that opportunity.
Zack Snyder Always Had Plans to Bring Back the DCEU

After working on titles like Army of the Dead and the Rebel Moon series, Snyder, although being a rocky one, is associated with Netflix. And as we can summarise with the recent posts on his Instagram showing Henry Cavill as DCEU’s Superman, Ben Affleck and Batman, and other stars behind the scenes, he was always interested in the DCEU’s revival.
This is further established by his statement during an interview with CulturaOcio, when asked whether he would love to go back to the Snyderverse, he revealed he would absolutely love to do so, saying:
If Netflix had owned the rights to the DC characters in my universe, absolutely.
While this may have been an off-handed comment back then, his wish has now become reality, with Netflix’s acquisition of WBD for a whopping $82.7 billion. Thus, fans shouldn’t be surprised if the Snyderverse returns on Netflix’s platform in the future.
How Zack Snyder’s DCEU Vision Never Truly Manifested
As people may already know, it was 2017 when Snyder took his leave from the development of Justice League during post-production due to the tragic death of his daughter, Autumn (via The Hollywood Reporter). But at the same time, he was scheduled to come back to direct the sequels to the film, but WBD had a different plan, which didn’t involve Snyder.
Thus, after the project was given to Joss Whedon, the studio scrapped the concept of the Snyderverse entirely, prompting the dark era of the DCEU that would follow it through its demise. On the other hand, every one of the films that the filmmaker was attached to did objectively well at the box office, and missed on critical appraisal, balancing profit and success.
Thus, while the DCEU may have ultimately failed, it never truly reached its full potential to begin with, due to Snyder not being there to provide it the direction it needed.
